Large Building, Multi-floor Repeater Installations

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

RepeaterStore.com has had many successful installations where the building size has exceeded 10,000 sq feet and  up to 40,000 square feet! By starting with the Wilson Dual-Band Ultimate II Repeater kit,  which uses two 65dB amplifiers (Cellular band #801165PCS band #801365),  this kit provides an internally amplified signal through one, ceiling mounted Panel antenna (#301135). The coverage given by this Panel antenna is usually limited to the floor it is mounted on because it is a directional antenna that shoots a signal down like a sprinkler.  When mounted on the 1st floor for example, the ceiling- mounted Panel antenna would not push signal back up to the 2nd & 3rd floors.

So what about the 2nd or 3rd floors?
A splitter (859957) is connected right past the two 65dB amplifiers but before the internal Panel antenna. One side of the splitter continues to the Panel mounted on the 1st floor and the other port of the splitter is run up to the 2nd floor for additional coverage needed there.  At this time, however, the signal on the 1st floor is decreased, which means the coverage area on the 1st floor now has gone down.  What a dilemma !

A more efficient way to direct the internal signal is to use a “Tap” which is a type of ‘directional’ splitter. A Tap funnels a certain amount of signal through a specific port.  A common tap we use in multiple-floor installations is a 6dB/1.5dB Tap (#859906) which directs only 25% of the signal to the 6dB port and the remaining 75% signal through the 1.5dB port. This allows 75% of the remaining signal to be sent on to the 2nd & 3rd floors where it is split evenly using the standard 50/50 splitter (#859957).

At some point, after multiple splits/taps, the signal is degraded and will need to be boosted back up so it can continue down the cable. This is when a Pre-amp (811201 or 812201) should be installed to cover more square footage, for instance, on a 4th or 5th floor.  In this example, we would install the pre-amp directly in-line to the cable running up to the 4th & 5th floors. The pre-amp would need AC power, as it is an active amplifier, so plan this installation accordingly. The key to extending the inside coverage to a multi-story building as in this example, is to use Taps (#859906), Splitters (#859957)  and Pre-amps (#811201, 812201) as described

Hopefully this description is helpful;  please give us a call with your custom installation requirement!

Wi-Ex introduces the zBoost YX039 Dual Band Outdoor Antenna

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Wi-Ex has upgraded their popular YX029 Premium Antenna, to the dual panel YX039 Premium Antenna System. The gain of the antennas has increased, boosting the signal strength and coverage area of your RepeaterStore cellular amplifier. The updated YX039 uses the YX021 800 MHz panel antenna in place of the 800 MHz yagi antenna that was in the YX029 System. This change gives better performance and is easier to install.

The zBoost YX039 Premium Antenna consists of two directional panel antennas, each with a 18″ jumper cable to connect them to an antenna combiner. The antenna combiner then attaches to a single coaxial cable for connection to the Wi-Ex Base Unit. The new YX039 System is to be used with the zBoost YX510-CEL-PCS dual band repeater kit.

The new and improved accessory antenna system, Wi-Ex zBoost YX039, offers an improved look and better overall signal gain!

Wilson 801262 DB PRO – New Antenna Options (301201, 301151, 301155)

Friday, March 27th, 2009

The new Wilson 801262 DB PRO is a fantastic multi-purpose dual band amplifier that was recently released by Wilson. The amplifier is 75 ohm, and so requires 75 ohm antennas. Wilson have released 75 ohm versions of old favorites, to provide a range of choice when customizing your 801262. Here is a round-up of the newest additions:

Wilson 301201 Dual Band Building Antenna

The Wilson 301201 is a 75 ohm version of the 301202, which we covered in a previous post. The Wilson 301201 is a dual band antenna, suited for outdoor building installation. It’s omni-directional, so receives signal from all directions, and is the perfect exterior antenna option for the Wilson 801262.

Wilson 301155 Dual Band Panel Antenna

The Wilson 301155 is a 75 ohm version of the versatile Wilson 301135. The antenna is a directional panel antenna, which can be used as both the receiving antenna outside or as the broadcast antenna inside. It is directional, and so needs to be pointed towards the nearest cell tower when used outside, or pointed toward the area to provide coverage when used inside.

Wilson 301151 Indoor Ceiling Dome Antenna

The Wilson 301151 is a 75 ohm version of the most popular indoor antenna, the Wilson 301121. This is a broadcast antenna, which is placed after the Wilson 801262 to transmit the boosted signal. It is omni-directional, which means it broadcasts the signal in all directions. It should therefore be placed at the center of the area you wish to cover.

With all these options it can get a little confusing! If you have any questions at all then please give us a call on (800) 761-3041, or send us an email, and we can help design a kit to meet your needs.
