I live in rural AR. I subscribe to AT&T for cell and HughesNet sat for Internet. Both suck. Cell works marginally indoors, poorly outdoors. Nearest cell tower is 6 miles away. However, and this came as a total surprise, my Sprint U727 USB modem at .9 mbps worked better than my 1.5 mbps sat service. U727 was provided by my employer as a backup to sat. I retired from Google in 2009. At that time I was only Google employee in AR (quite a distinction).

I would dearly love to scrap sat when my 2-year contract expires. In a perfect world I would find technology that would give me good cell service anywhere in the house and a good Internet connection. HughesNet suffers from over saturation in my market. I got 1.5 mbps consistently when there were relatively few subscribers but as more and more folks were added to net throughput degraded especially between 4PM and 11PM. I used to work at night to avoid this predictable degradation. The best I get in the early AM is 1.3 mbps but by 10AM this is down to .6 mbps. What I think I need is an outdoor antenna to boost and filter tower signal plus an indoor base station that supports data + 2 mobile users.

I go home to the reservation where I am In a Valley. I get ZERO reception no matter what but my famy have Verizon and they get reception. What can I do?????!?!

L Jones – Its important for a repeater that there is a spot to place an external antenna where there is a at least some cell phone signal. It doesn’t necessarily have to be outside, but usually that is where the signal is better. Let us know a little more about your situation and we will be glad to help.

Glenn – With AT&T we usually recommend a dual band booster. 5,000 sq ft. is a reasonably large area to cover, so you should consider one of our larger building kits here.
