Will a cellular repeater also increase the speed of my EVDO, HSDPA and other broadband data services?

Yes. In the eyes of a cellular repeater, there is no difference between a cellular signal and broadband data services.  Therefore, you can expect improvements in all available broadband data services including EVDO, HSDPA and UMTS technologies.  This is also true for broadband data cards.  This improvement in signal strength will result in better coverage area for these services, and faster data transfer.

If you want your cellular repeater to improve broadband data services then you must, as always, make sure you purchase a repeater with the right frequency for you.

List of services cellular repeaters can improve:

  • HSDPA
  • UMTS
  • W-CDMA
  • 3G-CDMA2000
  • 1 x RTT
  • 2 x RTT
  • GSM
  • GPRS
  • EDGE
  • WAP
  • 1xEVDO
  • 1xEVDO Rev A
  • IS-95A
  • 2G-IS-95A

There are other benefits too: Cellular repeaters can significantly improve the battery performance of your mobile phone. This is because the strength with which your mobile broadcasts your phone conversation depends on the cellular reception. If you use your phone in an area with just 1 or 2 bars of reception, the phone has to use a lot of power to communicate with the nearest cell tower. But, when a cellular repeater improves your reception, mobile phones are designed to reduce their power output as they now find it easier to communicate with the nearest cell tower. This also means that less radio waves are going to be broadcast by your phone in the vicinity of your head, which is beneficial to your health.
