Can a repeater be used to cover more than one floor?

It depends.  When cellular repeaters amplify the cellular signal it has a horizontal broadcast plane which effectively means that the majority of cellular signal is being broadcast on the same floor as the repeater.  The cellular signal on other floors may be strengthened to some extent, but this is a reduced effect due to attenuation from the ceiling/floor, which depends on the materials the building is constructed from and the positioning of the repeater unit.

The lower powered repeaters that we sell will show very little improvement on other floors. Higher powered repeaters (60dB or higher), will show a slight improvement on floors above and below the internal antenna but this improvement will be slight.

If you need multiple floor coverage then you have a number of options:

1. Purchase another repeater. If you currently have a relatively low powered repeater providing satisfactory performance on one floor then we recommend purchasing an additional unit for each subsequent floor.

2. Split the signal. With some of our higher powered repeaters you have the option of splitting the signal from the amplifier to 2 interior antennas. These antennas can then be placed on different floors providing multiple floor coverage. Our add-on antenna kit is currently compatible with both Wilson and Digital Antenna repeaters.
