This is the newly released third version of the Verizon Network Extender for Enterprise, replacing the V2 device. The new V3 device features identical functionality to the previous Verizon Network Extender 2 for Enterprise, but with a smaller and generally more accessible build, as well as the ability to switch broadcast frequencies via the UI.

Overview

If you're a company that relies primarily on Verizon coverage, the newly released Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender 3 for Enterprise is an excellent choice for providing in-building coverage for up to 300 users.

A single device can be connected to up to four antennas to achieve a coverage area of up to 50,000 sq ft, and multiple devices can be used to create a super-cell of up to 150,000 sq ft. 

You must be a current Verizon Wireless enterprise or business customer to register the 4G LTE Network Extender 3 for Enterprise under your own Verizon account.

How the Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender 3 for Enterprise Works

The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Network Extender 3 is an enterprise-grade femtocell or small cell – essentially a small cell phone tower. You can read more about how this type of device works in our small cell guide, but in brief:

1. The Enterprise LTE Network Extender 3 creates a secure tunnel over an Internet connection back to Verizon's core network.
2. The Enterprise LTE Network Extender 3 generates a fresh LTE signal that is distributed throughout the building.
3. When users enter the building, they are automatically "handed off" from the outdoor cellular network to the Enterprise LTE Network Extender 3's coverage zone, ensuring continued coverage.

LAA Support

LAA (Licensed Assisted Access) is an LTE technology that utilizes the 5 GHz unlicensed band, in combination with LTE licensed spectrum, to deliver a performance boost for LAA capable mobile device users.

Requirements

In order to use the Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender 3 for Enterprise, a few requirements must be met:

1. Internet connectivity: Verizon recommends using a connection with at least 20 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speeds, and ideally with 50 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload. Note that the unit does not need dedicated bandwidth, as full utilization will only happen very rarely.
2. GPS connectivity: Like all femtocells, the Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender 3 for Enterprise needs a clear GPS signal to identify its location and for timing (read more). A small magnetic-mount GPS antenna is included with the Verizon Enterprise LTE Network Extender 3, and must be placed near a window with a view of the sky. Outdoor GPS antennas can also be used (see recommended accessories below). 
3. Location: The Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender 3 works in all 50 states and in most areas of the United States, except these counties. Please check this list before purchasing. It will not work outside the United States.
4. Verizon Enterprise Account: You must have a Verizon Enterprise or Business account in order to activate the Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender 3 for Enterprise. If you are not currently an enterprise customer, you must choose "No existing Verizon Enterprise account" in the Account Type dropdown above when purchasing.
5. Compatible HD Voice (VoLTE) Devices: Most phones sold in the last 5 years support Voice over LTE, also known as "HD Voice" - including all iPhone devices released from 2014 onwards (i.e. iPhone 6 and newer) and all Samsung devices released from 2014 onwards (i.e. Galaxy S5 and newer).
6. Open Firewall Ports to Allow Communication: If you are on a corporate network, you may need to open ports 50, 500, 4500, 53 and 52428, or alternatively put the Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender 3 on a Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in order for it to be able to connect back to Verizon Wireless's network.

If any of these are an issue, you may wish to consider using a cell signal booster instead of the Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender 3 for Enterprise.

Optional Outdoor GPS Antenna and Surge Protection

The Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender 3 includes an indoor GPS antenna with 30 ft of cable. There are two reasons you may wish to purchase an outdoor GPS antenna:

1. If you are not within 30 ft of a window and need to bring in GPS signal from outdoors.
2. You are in a building with Low-E windows that block GPS signal.

To use an external GPS antenna with your Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender 3, we recommend purchasing the following parts:

• 40 dB GPS/GLONASS/GALILEO Timing Antenna with Integrated Lightning Protection - High gain antenna that includes a mounting bracket and a built-in GPS amplifier.
• RSRF 50 Ohm Lightning Surge Protector with N-Connectors - This lightning surge protector should be installed between the GPS antenna and the Verizon 4G LTE Enterprise Network Extender. Read about how to install surge protectors in our lightning surge protection guide.
• RSRF RS400 Custom-Cut N-Male Coaxial Cable - You will need two lengths of cable - one between the GPS antenna and the surge protector, and another between the surge protector and the Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender.
• RSRF SMA-Male to N-Female Pigtail Adapter - An SMA-Male to N-Female adapter is necessary to connect the GPS antenna to your Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if my Internet connection goes down?

If your Internet connection goes down, the Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender 3 will stop working until the Internet is available. If you need a solution that does not require Internet connectivity, consider a cell booster instead.

Is the Verizon 4G LTE Enterprise Network Extender 3 compatible 1xRTT, 2G CDMA or 3G service?

No, the unit only broadcasts LTE signal. Every phone released since 2014 supports "Voice over LTE" (also known as VoLTE or HD Voice) technology as the default way for making calls and sending texts. Verizon is planning on shutting down their 2G CDMA network in 2019. Older phones (from before 2014) will not be able to make calls or send texts using the LTE signal generated by the Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender for Enterprise.

Can I use more than one Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender 3 for Enterprise in the same building?

Yes, absolutely. Multiple Verizon 4G LTE Network Extenders can be installed in the same building, and devices will hand off seamlessly from one device to the next. You can read more about how to arrange the devices in the Deployment Guide.

Can I limit access to the extender to specific users?

No – any Verizon devices in range of the device will connect to the Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender 3 for Enterprise. The Network Extender can support up to 64 active users and 300 idle users. In most cases, you shouldn't see any performance issues by having unknown devices using the signal.

I have a firewall - do specific ports need to be opened for the Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender 3 for Enterprise to work?

Yes - you will need to either put the units on a Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) or open ports 50, 500, 4500, 53 and 52428.

How do I know if I'm connected to the Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender 3?

You can check by dialing #48 – you'll hear an announcement stating your connection to the Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender 3 for Enterprise.

Will I drop my call if I walk into range or move out of range of the Verizon 4G LTE Network Extender 3?

No, your call won't drop, provided there is sufficient coverage for your phone to hand-off to the outdoor "macro" cellular network.
