Product description

The Wilson DB Pro 3G is a high powered, dual band amplifier kit designed for home/office use. The DB Pro product line is an update to the very popular Wilson 841263 kit, and is an excellent solution for those seeking to improve 2G voice and 3G data coverage inside a building.

Quick summary

  • An excellent choice for improving coverage in apartments and small homes.
  • Supports up to 15 simultaneous callers.
  • Coverage area of up to 5,000 sq ft with strong outdoor signal.
  • Improves 2G and 3G signal for all US and Canadian carriers.
  • Comes in two versions: the only difference is the outdoor antenna that is included (more below).

Need to boost 4G LTE signals?

If you want to improve both 2G/3G signals and 4G LTE signals, consider purchasing the Wilson DB Pro 4G LTE Directional Kit (460103). 4G LTE signals is available in most areas and provides faster data speeds, and is being used for HD voice coverage by many networks.

Directional vs Omni Kit

The DB Pro 3G comes in two versions: the DB Pro 3G Directional Kit (462205), which includes a directional "yagi" outdoor antenna, and the DB Pro 3G Omni Kit (462105), which includes an omnidirectional outdoor antenna. The only difference between the two kits is the type of external antenna that they use. Read the next two sections to figure out which is right for you:

Wilson DB Pro Directional Kit (462105)

This Wilson 462205 kit includes a directional outdoor antenna, which needs to be pointed in the direction of a nearby cell tower. The advantage of using a directional kit is that it improves the signal-to-noise ratio, and allows the kit to provide a larger coverage area. This is particularly helpful if you have weak outdoor signal, as the extra gain from the outdoor antenna can make a significant difference. The disadvantage of using a directional antenna is that it often means that only one carrier's cellular signal is amplifier, since each carrier may have different towers that are in different directions relative to your home or office.

In summary, you should use the Directional Kit in the following situations:

  • If you have weak signal outdoors (1-2 bars).
  • If you want to get the maximum coverage area.
  • If you are happy improving coverage for just one carrier.

Wilson DB Pro Omni Kit (462105)

The Omni 462105 kit includes an omnidirectional outdoor antenna. Since the outdoor antenna can communicate with cell towers in any direction, it will work for all carriers simultaneously. Installation is also slightly simpler, as you don't need to spend any extra time figuring out the direction of the nearest cell phone tower. However, the omnidirectional antenna has lower gain, and as a result we recommend making sure that you have 2-3 bars of outdoor signal if you choose this version of the DB Pro kit.

In summary, you should use the Omni Kit in the following situations:

  • If you have stronger signal outdoors (2-3 bars).
  • If you need to amplify signal from multiple carriers.
  • If you want a slightly simpler installation process.

How the DB Pro 3G kit works

The DB Pro's outdoor antenna must be installed in an area with at least 1-2 bars of signal available, usually outside the building or on the roof. This outdoor antenna is either directional or omnidirectional, depending on which kit you choose, and communicates with nearby cell phone towers. It is connected via coaxial cable to the amplifier unit, which requires AC power. The DB Pro amplifier boosts signal in both the uplink and downlink directions, and communicates with your cell phone via an indoor panel antenna. The DB Pro provides an area of improved signal that can be used by up to 15 phones or data cards simultaneously.

Kit Contents:

  • Wilson DB PRO 3G amplifier
  • Wilson 304475 yagi antenna or Wilson 301201 omnidirectional antenna
  • Internal 301155 panel antenna
  • 1 x 50ft RG6 coaxial cable (950650)
  • 1 x 30ft RG6 coaxial cable (950630)
  • 1 x 20ft RG6 coaxial cable (950620)
  • F-Female barrel connector (to connect 2 cables together)
This allows you to have 50ft of cable either side of the amplifier, 80ft/20ft, or 70ft/30ft.

How it works

how a cell phone booster works
1 - Outdoor antenna

The outdoor antenna receives and transmits signal to nearby cellphone towers. Outdoor antennas can be either directional or omni-directional.

2 - Cellular amplifier

The amplifier (or "repeater") boosts the signal coming to and from and going to the cell phone tower. The "gain" of the amplifier describes how strong the amplification is - you'll see that word scattered across our product pages.

3 - Indoor antenna

The indoor antenna rebroadcasts the signal inside the building. Some kits have more than one indoor antenna to help distribute the signal.

The coverage area you can expect from any signal booster kit depends on the signal strength outside the building.

Outdoor Signal Estimated coverage area
Strong outdoor signal (5 bars) up to 5,000 sq. ft. coverage
Medium outdoor signal (3-4 bars) up to 2,500 sq. ft. coverage
Weak outdoor signal (1-2 bars) up to 500 sq. ft. coverage
