The WilsonPro 1050 features a unique dual-amplifier system designed to compensate for signal loss caused by long cable runs.
Signal loss or “attenuation” occurs over all kinds of coaxial cables. The longer the cable run, the more significant the loss will be. Using high-quality cable designed for long runs, like Wilson400, reduces this loss, as does running cable through walls and ceilings to keep cable length as short as possible. Nevertheless, some loss is inevitable. The WilsonPro 1050 aims to greatly reduce this by using a dual amplifier system composed of a main signal booster and a supplementary inline booster.
The Pro 1000 main amplifier unit boosts the signal first, and communicates with the inline Pro 1050 booster. The two amplifiers work together to determine the actual signal bleed along the cable run, and supply sufficient boost to compensate for this lost signal. The Pro 1050 signal booster system has been tested and approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to compensate for cable-run signal loss without exceeding the maximum-allowed system gain.
The WilsonPro 1050 uses the strongest downlink power permitted by the FCC to provide the largest possible indoor signal coverage. The new Wilson Electronics XDR (Extended Dynamic Range) technology balances and compensates for strong incoming signal to prevent system shutdowns.
The Pro 1050 is ideal for large installations that use long lengths of coaxial cable. It supports multiple simultaneous users, and it supports all cellular devices. It boosts 2G/3G/4G/LTE voice and data on all US and Canadian cellular networks.
The 1050 inline booster works only with the WilsonPro 1050, and cannot work as a standalone booster. Nor can the inline booster work with any other cell signal booster. FCC regulations prohibit any sale or distribution of the inline booster except as part of the WilsonPro 1050 system.
5 Critical Tips for the WilsonPro 1050:
1. Take signal measurements before you buy
The WilsonPro 1050 can cover up to an area of up to 30,000 square feet, but only if your outdoor signal is strong enough. This isn't true for just the Pro 1050, but across the board for all signal boosters.
We strongly recommend measuring your outdoor signal and speaking to our team of Signal Experts before you purchase. Our Signal Experts can help guide you to the best solution based on your signal conditions.
2. Only buy the WilsonPro 1050 if you have a very long cable run
The WilsonPro 1050 makes sense if you have at least one very long cable run. That means that your donor signal location must be very far from the area you want to cover.
So, for example, the WilsonPro 1050 is a good fit if you have a 50-story building, need to put the donor antenna on the roof, but only need coverage on the ground floor.
If you don't have a very long cable run, an inline booster system doesn't make sense. Instead, consider the WilsonPro 1000 or WIlsonPro 1000C.
3. Getting your outdoor antenna positioned correctly is critical
As we explain in our Signal Booster Guide, the bars on your phone are more than just signal strength. Signal quality is absolutely critical.
The only way to improve the signal quality coming into your booster is getting the outdoor antenna positioned correctly. Our team of Signal Experts can help guide you as you install the Pro 1050.
4. Consider the Cel-Fi QUATRA 2000
The Cel-Fi QUATRA 2000 targets a similar market to the WilsonPro line, however it is a carrier-specific system that the FCC allows to utilize up to 100 decibels gain. The extra gain means the QUATRA works better in remote areas with very weak outdoor signal.
The QUATRA also uses ethernet cable in place of coaxial cable. That allows you to run up to 300 feet of cable with no loss. The Quatra Range Extender allows you to extend this to 600 feet.
The QUATRA 2000 has both benefits and disadvantages. For example, each unit only works with 2 carriers at a time, so you need two sets for 4-carrier coverage. Additionally, installation can be a little more complicated than the WilsonPro products.
5. The WilsonPro 1050 is designed to be part of a custom-designed system
There's a reason that Wilson doesn't allow these units to be sold online: they're supposed to be designed into a custom system, with multiple antennas, splitters, couplers, and custom-length cables.
We offer complimentary design services using the industry-standard iBwave in-building design software. Simply contact our Signal Specialists and we'll chat through your building and requirements and help put together a custom solution for you.
